You spent years becoming a doctor. When you finally started practicing medicine, you realized that you weren't in the business of healing, you were in the business of disease management. Somehow you learned about functional medicine and suddenly it all made sense - you realized there is a better way.
Now you need to let patients know you're there for them, but after seeing patients all day you need time for your family, or more importantly, for yourself.
How would it feel if, after the work day was done, you knew that all the little things were taken care of. You want to educate your patients and of course you want to attract new patients. The email marketing? The blog writing? After seeing patients all day, the last thing you want to do is spend time in front of the computer writing. There's a better way.
In November of 2019, my wife – a family practice doctor at the time and functional medicine doctor now – and I took our family to Las Vegas so she could attend a medical conference.
We’d recently had some success with reversing our own disease after adopting a ketogenic diet, and while she was there, she grew more and more frustrated with the state of conventional medicine.
On the final day, she returned to the hotel early, frustrated by the state of medicine and told me she wanted to drive home to Phoenix immediately.
As we drove home in silent, I picked up my phone to find something to listen to and noticed a book in my Audible account I’d purchased the year before but never listened to – Unconventional Medicine by Chris Kresser.
For the next few hours we couldn’t believe what we were hearing. We had heard the term functional medicine for the first time a year prior but didn’t know what it was.
By the end of the drive, we made a decision – she was going to become certified in functional medicine while I was going to become a certified functional medicine health coach. Together we would help people in their healing journey.
I am and have been many things. First and foremost I’m a husband and father. I’ve attended culinary school and worked as a chef. I received a degree in education and was a middle school math teacher. And in September of 2021, I became a certified functional medicine health coach with the Functional Medicine Coaching Academy.
In the years since then, I’ve coached many patients to better health, but in the process, I’ve learned that writing is something I love above all. The ability to help multiple people through sharing the principals of functional medicine through the written word is one of my greatest skills.
In my spare time I love traveling with my family, writing and performing standup comedy, and I’m a member of Toastmasters, where I’ve won competitions in public speaking.
